As the name suggests tankless electric water heaters mean that there is not required or involved a tank to store and hold the amount of hot water temporarily (ahead of time), but they involve on-demand water heating mechanism which is so different to conventional electric water heating units that usually will heat an entire tank of water ahead of time. Storing hot water into a tank is not effective and can spend a lot of energy to keep warm the water in the tank. On the other hand, tankless design is purposed to only heat and supply hot water when it is only required, which is the key why this concept claimed more efficient and friendly to the utility bills that we must pay for each month.
How does a tankless electric water heater work?
As well we know that tankless units use the electricity energy and powerful heating element (powerful resistor which is a substance that can resist the flow of the electricity). The heating element will convert the electric energy to the heat energy that eventually will be used to heat the water and produce hot water when it is only needed. The heating element is usually sealed or covered inside a tube of water. A flow sensor is also functioned to detect that the water is flowing or flushing through the heater when we turn on the water heater tap! This sensor also has important function to turn on or turn off the heating element and to identify the flow rate of the water.

One of conventional home heating appliances is kerosene heaters. Like the name implies, they use kerosene as the fuel to warm up the air during winter or cold days. Today, there are two major different types of them, radiant and convection models. Radiant types usually do not involve wicks when working. On the other hand, convection types require wicks for the object of the ‘burned dry’. But in order to distribute the fuel to the catalytic converter (burner unit ‘the core of the heating system of a kerosene heater’) from the tank, both usually use a circular fiberglass.
