Propane is one of the alternative fuels option when it comes to heating during winter. Therefore, you must be familiar with propane heater! It is great choice for anyone who wants to use non-electric heating unit but there is not available gas pipeline transmission (natural gas (methane))! “Yes” it is usually often of non-permanent design (portable design) with a refillable pressurized propane tank, therefore there are some important points that we have to understand clearly so we can connect and disconnect the propane heaters with their disposal tank safely and properly. Improper procedures on connecting and disconnecting the unit with its refillable tank will lead potential hazards such as fire explosion. So take a few minutes to read and learn pieces of helpful information below.

How to disconnect both safely:

With proper procedures, disconnection your propane heater with its disposal tank is very straightforward and therefore can be finished in a matter of minutes. The first important procedure before disconnecting is you have to make sure that fuel supply is shut off. Therefore, take a look at the valve atop of your unit and turn it off.

Then check the gas volume gas of the tank. Make sure it is empty by shaking it so thus you will feel and hear liquid moving! If you don’t hear the liquid moving then the tank is empty and you can replace it.

Now, take a look at the valve and then unscrew them in order to release the hoses.

And take a look at the regulator, especially the point of it that connects to the disposal tank. Unscrew and remove it carefully.

How to connect both properly:

The disposable tank usually can properly fit and match inside of a special housing on the unit (in many cases). And you should know that there is available variety of models for refillable propane tank (from one that has simple screw-on design to other models that have advance design in order to increase the safety configuration & ease of installation, like quick-connect design and ACME hand-tightening model). So make sure you choose and buy the right disposal propane tank for your propane heater!

It is better to prioritize well-ventilated room or area than enclosed area! Or even you can choose outside for ideal area if necessary.

Take a look at the bottom of the cylinder of disposal tank, then grasp and push it up into cylinder housing. But there are also some types of disposal propane tank that don’t require this procedure. So it is dependent on the model of the tank itself.

Now connect the connector with the cylinder! Read the manual’s owner for more detailed information on how to do it properly. The connection between the tank and connector is usually designed for hand-tightened but will strong enough (will not leak).

If your propane heater has OPD or ACME fitting then you have to connect it to the propane valve, which usually use plastic hand-screws (hand-pressure-tightening design) to hook up the fitting to ACME or OPD fitting. So you can turn the fitting be firmly positioned (in a clockwise rotation).

For a quick-connect fitting, connect it to the disposal tank by pulling back the tank valve (especially pull the collar ring). Don’t forget to push the fitting from the heating unit into ‘the valve (the hole inside of it)’! Now you can properly release the collar ring and usually at the same time you will hear an audible ‘–click-‘. This ‘click’ sign indicates that the fitting and valve are properly installed at the correct position.

In addition, there are also available a lot of tank hoses that come in a wide variety of lengths if you want an extension.

Outdoor propane patio heater

Well, we can find lot of variety of heater appliances in the market today. And this condition will make some people difficult for making decision to choose which the best one of them. Choosing the right heater is easily if you know what typical heating appliance that can meet to your requirement. Overall, basically there are many units that have designed specially for areas specifically. As example, if you want to heat outdoor areas then portable models are so recommended, if you need hot water then tankless models are the favorite choice today, and if you want to make your patio can be used all year then I think propane patio heater units are one of the best choices so far.

As well as we know, there are many types of fuels as source energy such as oil, electricity, natural gas, kerosene, solar cell energy, etc. But why you should try propane patio heaters? Well, basically propane (C3H8) and methane (natural gas or CH4) are both popular of gas fuel which being popular today. CH4 is favorite option if in your local area is available for pipeline gas transmission (it is brilliant design for gas transmission to home’s costumers to minimize risk and hazards and cut the cost). And C3H8 is familiar option for people who want use gas fuel due to they have competitive and more stable in price but in their local areas are not available for gas pipeline transmission. Therefore it makes propane usually store into stainless steel pressurized tanks that allow we can move propane fuel to other place easily.

Patio electric heaters are the major opposite to propane patio heaters. Both have the potential advantages and disadvantages. People usually dislike using propane models because of their safety issues. But basically, you can use them safely as long as you obey the safety operation procedure properly. They look more efficient, friendly to the environment (lees carbon emission), noiseless when running, and cut the spending money that you must pay for the energy bill in the end of the month. In addition, 20lb propane cylinder stainless steel pressurized tanks are the most popular tanks that we usually find at home heating appliances.

As well as like written in the previous paragraph, we can find many various models, features, brands, and prices of propane patio heaters in the market today. And it can make choosing the truly the best one unit that suitable to your really need hardly. Therefore fellow are some points that you should consider before finally making deal to choose and buy one of them perfectly and satisfactorily:

Fist, making decision to choose what the truly type that you really need is the basic procedure. Radiant types that usually can heat from the side and it makes these types can heat the object closer and quickly. For commercial purposes like to place at restaurant, maybe cap designs are the best and recommended choice. Then table top styles are recommended for you who prioritize to decoration of the patio. And if you have large table in the patio, units that come with two distributed caps is the smart option. In addition, portable or units that enable move easily are being popular today. These types are suitable for people who want the device can heat object more specifically and moveable.

Try to find what the truly feature of the unit that you truly need. So far, efficiency and safety features are the most popular in consumers’ perspective. Some recommended useful features that you should review carefully such as timer (setting how long unit will run and shut down automatically), efficiency performance like qualify Energy Star or not, the adjustable heat feature (it allows you can set the high warm temperature correctly and easily), etc. For further information, you can ask to salesmen of the product.

Then consider and concern about the power heating capacity of the unit that usually it is defined in BTU (British Thermal Unit). Avoid the wrong size either lower or over size is important basic procedure because of it will determine strongly the performance of heater well or not. Consider also about the heating diameter, it is important part of the shape design of some heaters that can influence how fast the amount heat will be distributed out to the space of patio area. Don’t forget to purchase also heater cover to protect your unit perfectly during off season.

The unstable and fluctuation of fuel prices like oil is one of major reason why many people prefer to use propane fuel, especially for heating activity that usually it call as propane heaters. Propane is one of hydrocarbon types that have low emission carbon product. But overall user should be carefully when using it because there are some hazards and danger accident when we use propane heater units negligent. Therefore in addition we get lot benefit from these units, don’t forget to always use these units properly.

We know well that propane heaters are one of innovative alternative solution for people who want heat their room inexpensive and efficiently. The stable and affordable of propane fuel is one of important points about it. Most of them also usually have standard models, types, sizes, and technology like commonly heating units so far.

One of popular types of them is portable models. It looks compact and mobile so we move these types easily. Moreover, there are already many appliance units that use propane fuel for heating such as water heating (supply hot water and pool heating), indoor or outdoor heating, etc. Because they use flammable nature propane gas, that usually the fuel storage to the pressurized tanks, it is most risks that usually can result accidents when we use propane heater models, especially their byproducts of combustion process.

All right, below are some the propane heater hazards information we should know for use these heaters keep safely and keep far away from serious accidents:

Propane fuels usually are not produced with single hydrocarbon, they mix with other like butane. The popular type of them usually call with LPG, commonly it is combination between 60 percent butane and 40 percent propane or other various options. According to Energy Information Administration, gas companies cannot find propane deposit in nature but usually always mixed in with methane or familiar we call as natural gas. Economical transportation and distribution make gas companies always use liquid transportation model. In addition, this models discovered and popular since in 1912.

Ideally we use propane heater units with similar way when we use natural gas heaters that usually have pipe line transmission to supply fuel (methane). But for some reasons we usually utilize propane heater with pressurized gas. And it some time when we negligent can leak, and finally can result two types hazard accidents that are asphyxiation and explosion. Mostly leaks of tank caused by faulty installation and not-properly operation. As add information, catastrophically accident can occur when large container fails result high probability that call as BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion).

If those two type hazard accidents happen, there are obviously effects. Asphyxiation can result problem to the human respiratory system and it is hardly to prevent self-help measures. Then the explosion can produce high pressure and thermal explosion flame risk, these condition can destroy and even demolish the building of the house or office.

Overall if use propane heaters properly and obey the manufacture’s operation and maintenance guidelines, those hazards can be prevented. Below are some tips about it that we should consider:

The fist thing that we should consider is about to ensure that the heater and the tank keep in well condition.

Then provide adequate vent for circulation air. It purposes to reduce probability risk of asphyxiation risk. As possible use units that have deflection Oxygen sensor automatically feature. Or install carbon monoxide detection.

Check your heater and the tank regularly and do the maintenance properly.

Place the heater on stable surface, and keep distance between flammable materials to the unit.

When we charge or replace tank fuel with new one, ensure that the tank looks still in good condition. As add info, propane fuel doesn’t have odor so it is hardly to detect when the tank leaks. Therefore gas companies usually include an odoriferous compound to it so we can smell when tank leaks. The odoriferous compound usually from sulfur, marcpatan substance or else. If we smell the leak gas from the tank, stop all activities that can ignite the propane fuel and as soon as turn off the tank valve. If this precaution doesn’t solve or you afraid to overcome your self, as soon as possible call for help.

There are many variety space heaters, particularly various in how to choose the fuel types. One of space heater types that popular is propane space heater units. Propane space heaters also available in many options like variety in features, types, etc. They are available for temporary heater models that can be installed not-permanently such as portable propane heater units and some models that can be installed permanently like propane wall ventless heater units. They also can be used for outdoor usage or indoor usage. Overall space heater units that use propane as source power offer pledge to save more our money with cheap stable prize fuel and low bill for the energy bill.

Propane space heaters are the best alternative for you who want to use gas space heater units but in the local area house is not available adequate for gas pipe-line transmission. They don’t need the electricity to operate because they use propane as source power. They come with pressurized tank that has function to hold and as storage propane fuel. Although they use pressurized tank, but the tank usually has been already designed with good quality stainless steel, so it is safe for residential usage as long as user obey to operate and use the tank properly.

As addition information, propane fuel is colorless gas and odorless, therefore due to the safety reason propane fuel have been already produced to be odor gas by adding chemical elements such as mercaptane. It has function to detect if the tank is a leak present, so we can smell the odor of propane gas soon and can do the anticipatory measures as soon as possible. Then why the tank calls as pressurized tank? Because it has purpose to make propane gas to be liquid and can to store in tank easily with higher volume. This is commercial industry method to reduce the distribution operational cost.

There some important things we should consider if we use propane space heaters. The first that we must concern is by choosing the right comparison size between the size power heating of the unit and the size large of the area that will be heated. Usually they use BTUs as parameter how size power capacity heating of the unit. Then because they use gas propane as source power then will produce chemical product when running the combustion, therefore we should ensure that the room has adequate ventilation for air circulation.

Using propane space heaters is more just little bit needs extra concern to make ensure that the unit can operate properly and safely. This is one of factors that maybe make some people afraid to use them. Some people think that electric space heaters are better in the safety factor. Yes, it is true but it so depend how we use propane space heater units, because as long as we use these models well and follow the right procedure properly then the safety factor guarantee is no problemo! And we can get many advantages that we cannot find if we use electric space heating models such as less expensive in cost, more quietly when running, friendly to the environment (especially if we compare to the oil models), etc.

Factually people who still not-familiar use gas either propane or natural gas, usually afraid to use propane space heaters. But if we know well how to operate properly then we can enjoy the many advantages that we can get if we use one of them. Below are some tips that we should concern to reduce the potential hazard, particularly if we use for indoor usage:

One of the combustion chemical products is CO or Carbon Monoxide. Although propane fuel combustion produce CO lower than oil fuel combustion, but we must still concern to make ensure the level CO volume is so lower than Oxygen volume in the room. Therefore we must ensure to provide adequate ventilation for air circulation. Usually if CO volume is higher, then will result O2 deflection extremely, therefore some modern units have already equipped with the O2 deflection sensor feature that can shut off automatically the unit if O2 volume decrease significantly.

We make ensure that flammable materials as far as possible from the unit. The flammable materials such as clothing, towels, furniture, curtains, etc. Don’t forget to place propane space heater at stable solid place that not easily be burn. Don’t ever try to put the device on easily material like wood table, wood desk, etc.

As possible don’t leave heater keep turn on when not needed. Better we turn off the heater when want to go to sleep or go out from the house.

Then make ensure that we place the unit far away from the foot traffic. It has purpose to prevent accidental touching between pets, children or others to the heater. It is also helpful to anticipate the spills. The spills incident also can be prevented by keeping fire extinguisher closely to our propane space heater unit.

Be carefully when we are refilling, as simple tip don’t try refill when the heater is running. We can turn off the heater first before doing to refill. Make ensure that unit is in turn off position completely. We can do this by unplugging the heater and take it outside and let it cools down completely, then after it we can do to refill safely.

Well, today many options on how to heat and result warm air at home. There is available numerous types, kinds, and choices about furnace but propane is one of choices that tend to remain rather steady in cost (monthly) and price (first when we buy the unit). And we know well the oil and electricity keep growing and not-stable in prize today and it looks positive trend why propane furnace is one of brilliant furnace technologies that can helpful to cut the energy bill monthly. Then we just install it direct vent properly, and use one of top brands of it, we will get many advantages especially we will surprise that the device can work in brilliant efficiency energy usage.

The installation is something must be considered, most of propane furnaces (except portable model) usually will look to difficult for who unfamiliar with propane furnace. So to make ensure can be done properly, and the device can run and work well, we must find somebody who qualified to do this job. Yes, getting installation properly we have to pay professional service, but I think it is good investment for long time usage, high cost for the first, and get many benefit of brilliant high efficiency monthly and good for the environment (because we know well, propane better produce low emission of carbon that others like oil, etc).

The properly installation is important because it is not only make ensure the device can work and operate well but also make guarantee about the safety reason. Usually some of the installation service company can do on almost any piece of propane furnaces, but better if we use professional service who really master of your propane furnace product specifically, because some brands need professional service specifically to finish the installation correctly. Then usually some of professional service companies, usually offer deal with a contract, so it means as long as the installation contract is not expire, we can call and use free their service if we get problem about the maintenance of the device.

Propane furnaces are available in many options, like the varieties of the size capacity. It is helpful to us to find how the capacity power of the device that finally suit to the demand properly. BTUs (British Thermal Units) are standard energy parameter that applied and as rate of propane furnaces. Choosing the right size capacity is very important to get the efficiency energy properly. Even propane fuel tends to rather stable in prize and the device is already designed with good efficiency energy usage, but if we choose wrong size capacity, then will result bad effect for the efficiency.

Need the explanation information clearly for getting one of the best of propane furnace before making great deal for purchasing, bellow are some tips that useful as good recommendation advice for you:

Make ensure that propane fuel is one of the best alternative choices for heating system to your home in your area, and better we check the place where the device will install (make ensure that the place installation has adequate vent for circulation air).

Compare, consider, and analyze the differences between brands of propane furnaces. You can find review information on internet like in www.guide2Furances.com (this site is one of the leading consumer reporting companies), we can get lot information about pros and cons of many brands there, and analyze well which one as your favorite.

As like written in previous paragraph, propane furnaces use BTU rating as their energy power parameter. Choose the size in BTUs correctly to meet to how large the area we want to heat or how big the demand. We can discuss and ask to people who familiar and master about it like salesman (if we want the free advice information he4).

Then after decide the size in BTUs of the device we want to buy, then don’t forget to consider about the efficiency rating. Well, off course it also will give effect how high the efficiency of the device significantly. But unfortunately the price of the device will determine how rate the efficiency because usually for the expensive units have 95 percent in the efficiency rating better than the cheap units that usually have only 85 percent in the efficiency rating. Hmm… But if we look the review just little bit hardly, maybe we can get good information to get high efficiency unit in low price.

And the last, don’t be forgot about the warranty, as long warranty of the unit so we can get more benefit of this condition in long time usage. In the warranty factor, basically for propane furnace consist two major we should concern that are research extended warranty option and the factory warranty.

And don’t forget to improve your instinct to find the best one of propane furnace to your home. And finally enjoy the shopping guys ^_^.

Well, have you ever use propane burner? If the answer is yes, then you already should know well and familiar what it is! Propane burner usually similar to propane stove or some people think both are same. It is still belong to traditional tool for outdoor cooking and so far it is still become popular choice if people want cook for outdoor. It uses propane fuel as source power that already is designed with safety.

Standard propane burners on the bottom plate is usually as the place for burner cup that usually already designed as special circular. And to make ensure the safety factor guarantee well, some of them usually have cylindrical flames screens. Cylindrical flames screens usually are placed on the bottom plate of burner cup.

Below are some points why propane burners still to be popular choice for outdoor activity such as camping, garden party (usually use patio for cooking’s place), backpacking and still many more for outdoor activity:

Maybe you still worry to use propane gas fuel that can result fire risk accident. Today they usually already equipped with pressurized tank to hold propane fuel. The tank has been already designed with good standard to use keep safe. The pressurized tank is sealed and covered with good standard material then so if we use belong to operate procedure properly, we can eliminate the fire risk and spillage risk. The pressurized tank (especially in small size units) also make them (especially for single propane burners) become portable, so we can bring them easily as long as we want such as for backpacking, camping, etc.

Standard propane burners usually use BTUs (British Thermal Units) as energy parameter. As higher the parameter in BTUs operating then will produce higher heat energy to result higher temperature for cooking complete quickly, but be careful don’t make the food become burnt he… Lol.

Most of campsite usually allows use them as cooking equipment because they has good safety guarantee as long as we use it properly.

We know well the global warming issue still become popular issue for further years, as human who care about the balance ecosystem keep well and want to get participating to safe our planet, then by using propane burner you will become part of community to make world better. Because it results lower emission of Carbon particle than others particularly such burners that use oil-fueled as source power. We can also get cooking place clearly as long as we use them, and this situation will look clearly compare if we use kerosene stoves and wood burning.

Don’t forget that propane fuel is prone cheaper and stable in prize than other fuels. So we can save more money for the energy bill. Propane fuel also makes them don’t require preheating when we start want to use, but usually when the cartridge empties result lose their heating efficiency.

Factually and maybe you so agree that they are good heating device as heat source for brewers. They also require simple maintenance.

We can find them in market with many options on shapes and sizes capacity. Today they are available in single propane burner (mostly), double model and triple model of propane burners. And in size capacity we can find them available from the highest in 210 thousand BTUs and the lowest in 55 thousand BTUs.

One of popular space heaters is powered by propane for the fuel or usually people call as propane space heaters. They can be used to heat small, medium or large rooms (depending to the size of the unit). Even they also can be designed as central heating to warm up the entire home.

The size is so crucial and if you ignore this point, your unit cannot work properly and even can lead to the bad efficiency performance that eventually will result an unexpected high utility bills (bad news for your monthly finance).

And as well we know that they can be categorized into the combustion heating appliance that will produce an amount pollutants (like CO that can be so harmful for anyone) when working. This is the key why there are many experts recommend to always and check the venting mechanism carefully (make sure the unit is properly vented). The venting mechanism is not only important to circulate the byproducts of the combustion process to the outside but also important to keep the heating system work well.

You may find some propane space heating units that are designed with unvented-design. As the name implies, this type does not require the venting mechanism. But however, basically the combustion heating units always must be vented in order to reduce the risk of CO poisoning. So, if you seriously care to the safety, it is much more recommended to avoid choosing & using unvented units for indoor use.

Pros and Cons

Propane space heaters are one of popular choices if we are looking for the heating solution with friendlier utility bills. The propane prices are now relatively slightly cheaper than electricity energy and kerosene (depending to the local price in your area). Propane is also a highly efficient fuel in this modern living.

Although there are also byproducts of combustions process, but relatively lower if compared to wood or kerosene heating appliances.

Propane space heating units are able to provide the quickly heating performance with more powerful heat energy output for heating. Even if you compare to the electric space heaters, they can work better in the quickly heating performance, ‘yes’ they work faster for heating than electric units.

The propane fuel is typically stored into a pressurized tank, and this tank is portable enough (can be moved). Therefore, they are best option if you want to use gas heaters but in your local area is not available natural gas pipeline transmission.

However, there are also some disadvantages or downsides that you have to consider! The up-front costs, including for the installation is not cheap (except for portable models). Since the propane that is stored into a pressurized tank, you may run out of the fuel (empty tank), therefore you may need a back up full tank with propane at least one to anticipate this problem.

Moreover, the venting mechanism also can lead to heat losses. But this can be minimized by making sure that the venting mechanism is properly installed, and don’t forget also for the maintenance.

In addition, there are also some homeowners who have perception that propane space heaters is not as safe as when using electric heaters. But as long as you do the maintenance properly and obey the manufacture’s guidelines on how to use your unit properly, your propane space heater can be as safe as like electric heating units.

If you are looking for a heater that can be economical, safe and welcome idea for clean-burning fuel solution (especially if compared to kerosene heaters) then portable propane heaters are one of the popular options. Although there are some people who have perception that this kind of heating unit can lead to several possible threats but as far as safety procedures is concerned then we can use them as safe as electric heating appliances. And we can get a lot of advantages (pros) from them, but there are also some disadvantages (cons- particularly about the safety issues) that we should consider before deciding to use them! Understanding pros and cons of portable propane heater before purchasing is not only helpful to make sure this kind of heater will be able to accommodate your requirements as well but also so important to make sure you will use it safely and properly.

Pros of portable propane heaters

With their portable design, they are typically smaller in size in order to make them can be moved more practically. The cost of propane fuel is usually relatively cheaper than the electricity so thus you can save your money on paying more friendly utility bills in the heating season. Moreover, they come in smaller size BTUs of power heating capacity that can be helpful and nice idea to complement your central heating system in your house. Most of them have a special feature to direct the heat energy to heat a certain space of your house (or we can call this mechanism as spot heating), which can be powerful enough to heat a specific spot space or object more quickly and efficient. The powerful performance of spot heating is closely associated to the heating design of the unit itself. The spot heating will be powerful enough if you choose some of them that are designed with radiant heating principle.

Once again, the practical point is the concern for the design of portable propane heating units! Yes, like other regular mobile heating appliances, they can be installed and re-installed easier, ever for anyone who does not have any experience to use them before! The propane fuel is usually stored into the replaceable pressurized tank, and this tank is also free-standing in design so thus can be moved easily with the unit. With their portability feature, they are not only popular for indoor use but also one of the most popular choices for outdoor heating, like for camping or for heating a outdoor patio area.

Cons of portable propane heaters

Although there are a lot of advantages or benefits that we can get but there are also some drawbacks that we should concern! When the propane fuel is burned to produce the heat energy, an amount of carbon monoxide is also produced as one of byproducts of combustion process. Therefore, you need more extra concern to consider this issue carefully! Otherwise there is a serious potential risk that can be so dangerous (poison risk)!

You may think to choose one of them that come with vent-less in design. With the advance design, this type is claimed able to work properly without needing the venting mechanism and even can work more efficient! But unfortunately, this type is not as ventless as portable electric heaters, and it is too risk to be used for indoor because basically all combustion heating appliances must be well vented to guarantee the safety. Even there are several States that don’t allow using ventless units for indoor use. So, for better safety it is much more recommended to vent your portable propane heaters properly instead of using ventless models.

Below are more safety tips:

Today, you can find a portable propane heater that is already equipped with O2 depletion sensor. But for better safety, it is more recommended to also use a stand-alone O2 depletion sensor that we can install in the room where the unit is installed (for back-up sensor if the one sensor of the unit fails to work). In addition, the sensor is usually powered by a battery, therefore check regularly the battery and make sure it is still powerful enough to supply the energy for the sensor, or replace the battery regularly if necessary!

If you have a plan to purchase one of them, prioritize to choose one that has more safety features, particularly the automatic safety features to shut down the heater automatically if it gets accidentally overheating or tripped-over!

Always follow and obey the manufacture instructions on how to operate and maintain your unit properly!

Always turn off completely your unit while not in use!

Although they can be used for spot heating, but it is better to also consider carefully between the size of power heating capacity of the unit and the large square feet of the room that will be heated. Make sure it is not too over size or lower size!

Once again, like mentioned before, avoid choosing to buy & use unvented model (especially for indoor use) l! But it’s better to choose vented model if you seriously concern to the safety issue! And make sure your vented-unit is properly vented!

Before turning on your unit, make sure there is no a leak of propane in your room! Naturally, propane is odorless but the propane fuel for residential use is usually already modified with a mixture of chemical properties in order to make it can be smelled! If you smell a leak of propane, don’t ever try to turn on your heater before this problem completely solved! Turn off all electrical appliances in your house immediately, completely cut off the electric power supply in your house for better safety! Open all windows and doors of your room or house, and don’t use any phones! And then disconnect the tank from the heater properly, then take out the tank to the outside (open area)! If you in doubt to do this, call the utility gas supply company or fire department in your local area, but remember use your phone in the outside of your house!

Keep far away any combustible materials or flammable materials from portable propane heaters (particularly when they are running)!

Do the maintenance regularly and properly! Follow the owner’s manual guidelines of your unit! The maintenance is not only important to keep the efficiency performance but also important to make sure all components of your portable propane heater work well, especially for all safety features and the O2 depletion sensor!

propane gas heaters

As well we know, today there are several alternative fuels to choose from, particularly when it comes to heating and cooling. One of them is propane. It is great choice for anyone who wants to use more affordable energy (gas) but there is no available natural gas pipeline transmission in your local area. Propane is usually stored into a pressurized tank so thus it can be moved and carried easily from one place to another. This pressurized tank is one of factors why there is needed extra concern on how to use a propane heater properly and more safely.

However, propane heaters are one of popular alternative choices when it comes to heat the air during the coldest days of winter. They are offered in several sizes and types for different uses. And if we completely understand on how to use them properly and safely, they will be not too bad idea to get more affordable of heating costs, particularly if there is not available other heat sources. Like regular natural gas heaters, one of important that must be concerned is about the venting system. Make sure the room has a well-ventilation. The unit must be well-ventilated so thus the accidentally build-up of CO (Carbon Monoxide) can be prevented and minimized as well. Use Oxygen depletion sensor if necessary! Don’t miss to read and learn the operating instructions of the manual’s guidelines of your unit so thus you will always use it properly.

Propane and methane (natural gas) can be categorized into a flammable fuel! Therefore, there is needed and required more extra concern when we choose to use both. Not only fires, propane fuel that is stored into a pressurized tank can lead a serious explosion (like BLEVE ‘Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion’), especially if the tank (with big volume) catastrophically fails. The probability of the explosion and fire accident can be minimized if we use the heater carefully and properly. Keep far away any flammable objects from the unit.

We all agree that safety is the most important point. The following are pieces of helpful information that you should know on how to use propane heaters properly and safely, so thus any dangers and risks can be minimized as well:

CO (Carbon Monoxide)

Carbon monoxide is one of byproducts from combustion process of propane. Like mentioned before, therefore it is so important to make sure that your propane heater is well ventilated, particularly if you use it for indoor use.

A poor venting system can lead to a serious CO poisoning. Warning symptoms of CO poisoning; confusion – nausea – dizziness – sleepiness – headache – weakness, etc. CO will be merged into the blood of the body and finally will decrease the ability of the blood to take & carry O2 (Oxygen). This ongoing condition can cause in seriously loss of consciousness or even death, which the process will be worse and faster for drug use & alcohol consumption.

As well we know, portable propane heater is popular for outdoor recreation. It can be used to heat a closed outdoor space like RV, tent or truck cap. In fact, the symptoms of CO poisoning is too slow to be recognized by a sleeping individual. This is the reason why the risk of death can be much higher. Therefore use O2 depletion sensor for better safety!

Today, many modern propane heating units have already been equipped with an oxygen depletion system (indoor safety feature) that will be useful to shut down the heating system automatically if the oxygen level reaches unacceptable standard. The safety feature also will be helpful to turn off the unit automatically while the unit is overheating.

The other idea to keep naturally warm at night in your tent, you can wear adequate clothing or utilize a thermally rated sleeping bag or you can also consume more fluids or calories.

Understanding about flash point of propane

Flash point is the crucial point if the mixture of propane and air is exact in order to be combustible. It is around 2.15 % and 9.6 % of the total propane / air mixture. This means if the mixture is slightly higher than 9.6 % or a bit lower than 2.15 % then there is no combustion.

Odor of propane

Unfortunately, naturally… propane does not have odor so it can be categorized into tasteless and odorless flammable fuel. On the other hand, this odorless characteristic of propane is not safe and too risk that will make anyone cannot recognize while the leak occurs from the pressurized tank. Therefore, there is used an odorant in order to make the propane gas can be smelled.

Safety checklists:

Be careful with the lighting of propane heater. It will initially result and produce in a small flash of flame that can cause fire accident if there are any flammable materials that placed to close with the heater

Make sure to place the unit on the flat surface!

Avoid involving and using a ventless-catalytic model of propane heater to warm up the air of your room. Using ventless model is a dangerous proposition, particularly if the room has poor ventilation.

Make sure your CO detector has a proper and powerful battery back-up so it will work properly and continuously.

And once again don’t miss to read & learn the manufacturer’s instructions on how to maintain and use your propane heater properly.
