Electric Baseboard Heater & High Efficiency Performance

Electric baseboard heaters

It is undeniable that heating activity during winter months can drain your pocket and eventually cause serious finance problem for each month, particularly if you use and operate your heating unit improperly. As well we know; there are many choices to heat your home and one of popular options is by using electric baseboard heater. Whatever how the high efficiency performance of your unit but if you operate it improperly and even you don’t obey the regular proper maintenance then it is easily to be predicted that your energy bill in the end of the month that you have to pay will increase significantly and out of your prediction.

In fact, there are many homeowners still don’t realize that thirty percent of the warm air run off through any holes of the house such as; ceilings, walls, and even the floors. High amount of warm air that escapes from the room will make electric baseboard heaters be powerless and inefficient. Therefore it is so important to install adequate insulation for your house in order to minimize the loss of warm air from the house. In many cases, the other media where warm air will be escaping are; doors, windows, hole of fireplace, ducts and even the plumbing fixtures. Below are other smart ideas and familiar issues to ensure your electric baseboard heater keeps working powerfully and efficiently;

  1. Use your unit to heat the proper room (the large size of the room that will be heated should be based on the size (BTUs) of your unit). Avoid using wrong opinion that ‘bigger size is better’. Wrong size (either over size or lower size) is not good for the unit and for you.
  2. Set the thermostat of the unit properly and wisely. There are some people who have assumption that ‘hotter is better’. But once again, you should know that too-high thermostat setting is not only will increase the energy utility drastically and unexpectedly but also can lead to the overheating problem that can lead to the fire risk accident. The frequently over temperature-heat thermostat setting also can make the unit does not last longer.
  3. We know well that electric baseboard heaters are popular with their safety performance since they don’t consume gas or kerosene fuel as source power. Therefore, we can let these units keep working when we are not at home with around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This is better than if you turn off your unit completely because can cause the unit work twice as hard and twice as energy.
  4. Make sure there is sufficient airflow! This means ensure the unit has adequate space for reproducing warm air. Place the unit in the proper location. Don’t place any stuffs or piece of furniture too close to the unit.
  5. Do the maintenance properly and regularly (especially one or two weeks before on-season (winter season) comes into your house). The amount of dust that is accumulated around exhausts or vents or even other heating components (like metallic-fins and fans) can lead to the bad situation that can influence the performance of the heater (hardly work). If your unit is equipped with anti-freeze feature, you can optimize the function of this feature to keep unit working properly, especially during below of uninhabitable-level. Getting the better result, it is so recommended to sign a contract with a professional maintenance contractor at least once a year.
