If you are looking for a heating unit to heat a certain room of your house, then room heater is the answer. It is typically portable heating unit that can be carried or moved from one location to another location. With relatively smaller in shape, lighter in weight and also smaller in power heating capacity- portable room heaters will be nice idea to complement an existing central heating system. This idea is simple but will be helpful enough to reduce the heating costs in the heating season. There are many models and types to choose from! Whatever your choice, it should be safe to operate! So, how to find the safest one?

In fact, there are many fire accidents that can be caused by improperly use of room heaters. Even there around more than 24,000 residential fires for each year (according to U.S Consumer Product & Safety Commission). Therefore, it is completely understood that the proper procedures on how to operate and maintain the unit is so important to make sure we can use them safely. Based on this reason, today we can find many modern models of them come with better safety features so thus the unit can be used more safely. The following are pieces of helpful information about any issues that you should take into consideration to find the safest one and how to use it properly and safely!

  1. One of the most familiar features is thermostat! It has function to make easier on controlling the amount of heat output from the heater. Poor performance of this feature can lead to the overheating problem. So make sure it is always in good condition to operate. For better safety, choose room heater that also equipped with automatic shut-off feature to automatically turn off the unit when it gets tilt-over & overheating.
  2. Well, there are some experts who recommend to choose and use unit that has direct wall plug-in instead off unit that require more electrical current, because the high amount of electrical energy needed for a heater will be able to melt & drip the average extension cord that eventually will ignite a fire. With the direct wall plug-in design will be useful to bypass the utilization for extension cords.
  3. Don’t forget to consider the method of heat liquid transfer heating! There are several different methods, and if you seriously want to prioritize the safety then it’s much better to choose one that involves an electric coil for heating a liquid, like oil! This is simple method but (according to U.S DOE ‘Department of Energy’) will be useful enough to provide uninterrupted & continuously heat to limit the requirement for the room heating unit to cycle ‘on’ & ‘off’.
  4. Make sure the unit that you want to select and purchase has been tested in a series of tests to make sure and guarantee it is qualified with stringent control & safety standards! One of easier ideas for this issue is by ensuring the heater that you want to buy is certified by UL label (Underwriters Laboratories label). With this label, you can evaluate the unit indirectly about function, reliability and performance. And even room heaters with UL label is also recommended by The U.S Department of Energy.
